## **Independent journalism for the rejuvenation biotech field**

Age-related diseases are not only collectively the biggest killers worldwide, they rob people of their independence and dignity.

Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, stroke, heart disease, frailty, arthritis, type 2 diabetes and more are _caused by the aging processes_. Your age is the greatest risk factor for developing these diseases and the suffering they bring.

We believe that everyone should be able to enjoy longer and healthier lives that are free from age-related diseases. There are some potentially game-changing medical technologies on the horizon that could be truly transformative for healthcare and how we treat age-related diseases.

Since 2014 our non-profit organization has reported on the development of medical technologies to rejuvenate aged tissues and organs. By directly targeting the [aging processes](https://lifespan.io/topic/aging/), many age-related diseases might be prevented, delayed or treated at once. By sponsoring, democratizing and funding aging research, combined with responsible journalism, we aim to accelerate progress towards this important goal for all humankind.

We are part of the Lifespan Research Institusion, a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization headquartered in Mountain View, California. Responsible Journalism

While our field is an exciting one, there is unfortunately a problem with misinformation and snake oil. Marketing spin, hype, and misleading information designed to sell you products are constant issues.

And because we are a non-profit organization we will never try to sell you products. This allows us to bring you news free from influence by government or commercial interests.

Crowdfunding

Since we launched our [research fundraising](https://lifespan.io/crowdsourcing-aging-research/) website, lifespan.io in 2015, we have raised over $750,000 for important aging research and worked with institutions including Harvard Medical School and SENS Research Foundation. Funded research includes [mitochondrial repair](https://lifespan.io/campaigns/mitosens-transgenic-mouse-project/), [DNA damage](https://lifespan.io/campaigns/can-nmn-increase-longevity/), [functional biomarkers of aging](https://lifespan.io/campaigns/agemeter-biomarker-scan/), and a [rapamycin human trial](https://lifespan.io/campaigns/pearl-participatory-evaluation-of-aging-with-rapamycin-for-longevity/).

This research could potentially help to speed up progress towards longer, healthier lives and may benefit you in the future.

We are active in the decentralized science (DeSci) movement, which aims to increase scientific funding, free knowledge from silos, and cut out profit-motivated intermediaries such as publisher conglomerates that lock scientific data behind paywalls.

We are a partner organization of the Longevity Prize, a DeSci initiative aiming to accelerate research efforts. This is a series of prizes to honor and accelerate progress in longevity and rejuvenation brought to you thanks to [VitaDAO](https://www.vitadao.com/),[Foresight Institute](https://foresight.org/),[Methuselah Foundation](https://www.mfoundation.org/), and lifespan.io.

As part of our DeSci strategy, lifespan.io is working on a variety of [innovative Web3 efforts](https://www.lifespanlegends.com/lifespan/lifespan-io-web3) to raise funds and awareness for research aimed at extending healthy human lifespan. This includes creating a massive-scale metaversal game to raise hundreds of millions for agins research, organizing the first-of-its-kind decentralized clinical trial for digital therapies targetting dementia, and pioneering new forms of perpetual and NFT-based fundraising for public goods.

We are also able to offer fiscal sponsorship arrangements, which offers a way for a cause to attract donors even when it is not yet recognized as tax-exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3). Community Building

Solving aging will need a coordinated industry working together to turn aging research into prescribable medicine. This is where lifespan.io is really helping to move things forward.

Our annual [Ending Age-Related Diseases conference](https://lifespan.io/events-main/) brings entrepreneurs and investors, pharma and biotech companies, researchers, and government organizations together. Fostering the exchange of information and encouraging cooperation between the various parts of the industry is the goal of our conference.
